Executive Mission Planning is the session where the conditions for a quarter are designed. It is the Mission Intelligence Systems answer to the recurring, whole-leadership planning event, rebuilt around conditions rather than capacity. Its purpose is not to fill the quarter with work. It is to leave the room with a canvas, a constraint, and a board that make the work possible.

Cadence and cast

The session runs on a quarterly cadence, with a shorter mid-quarter check to hold the conditions. The cast is the leaders who own the conditions, not a large audience. Every person in the room should walk out owning something on the canvas. If a leader owns nothing, they are an observer, and observers dilute the accountability the session exists to create.

The agenda that designs conditions

The agenda follows the artifacts in order. Read the Readiness Score to agree on the ground. Draft the Mission Canvas: outcome, conditions, owners. Surface divergence deliberately and resolve it while it is cheap. Map the constraint and commit real capacity to it. Protect attention by naming what the quarter will not do. Design the Mission Board and assign decision rights. Each step designs a condition; none of them is a scheduling exercise.

The handoff to execution

The session ends with a clean handoff. Execution does not inherit a list of tasks; it inherits a set of conditions to preserve and a board built to preserve them. That is the symmetry of the whole system: planning asks what conditions must exist before execution begins, and execution asks how to preserve them. When the handoff is clean, the quarter starts already ready, which is the entire point of learning to see before you build.
